The Book Room

You will be able to see a selection of the images on display at the Book Room, meeting house lane, Lancaster starting tomorrow. The whole selection will be available to buy, at 5" x 7" mounted prints, while larger prints can be ordered in the shop. We don't currently know how long they will be up for, but you'll know when we do. The Book Room stocks a fantastic range of books so it's well worth a look.

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday.  It was a very enjoyable evening so thanks as well to everyone at Vivid arts who made it possible. If you didn't make it, look out for reviews and we hope you can make it to the next one.

The First Exhibition

This Saturday (March 7th) we will be exhibiting the project for the first time.  A selection of images will be displayed in Lancaster library during an evening of art, music and drama.

The event is organised by the Friends of Lancaster Library, there will be a £3 entry fee with the money going to support the library and future events. Tickets are available in advance. 

This is a very exciting night for us and we hope to see you there.

What is PR2?

PR² explores the work of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood and those inspired by the brotherhood’s work.  Each image is an adaptation of the Pre-Raphaelite painting of the same name, using modern imagery, clothing, props and stories. 

 

PR² is the work of Roberta Cotter and Charlotte Forsdick. Roberta Cotter is a professional photographer based in Galway, Ireland.  Her portfolio covers a wide range of work including portraiture and events, PR² is her first foray into fine art photography.  Her creative partner Charlotte Forsdick is a postgraduate design student with a degree in Architecture and an MA in Design. It was Charlotte’s interest in the Pre-Raphaelites which first prompted the idea which would blossom into PR².  Roberta's attention to detail and relaxed approach combined with Charlotte's organisation and academic understanding of the work created a series of images which are both beautiful to look at and full of deeper meanings.  

 

The Pre-Raphaelites work was rooted in nature and an appreciation of the natural world as championed by John Ruskin.  Much of their work depicts stories, myths and legends, taking inspiration from Shakespeare, the Bible and Greek mythology amongst other things.  Much of the story is communicated through the use of symbolism, the understanding of which has been lost to most in modern society. The PR² adaptations hope to reawaken an interest in understanding the stories and symbols within an image, whilst also making the images clear enough to be understood by those unfamiliar with the symbols used.
